Shawn Johnson, and the Green American Road Trip

Growth Energy’s Green American Road Trip campaign helps drivers embrace sustainable travel by showing how biofuels reduce their carbon footprint without sacrificing the thrill of the open road. The challenge was convincing road trippers that eco-friendly adventures could deliver both performance and convenience. The solution? Enlist Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson and her family to showcase how biofuels power unforgettable journeys with lower emissions and zero trade-offs. Through engaging storytelling, scenic visuals, and authentic family experiences, the campaign demonstrated that sustainability and spontaneity can go hand in hand—one mile at a time.

Growth Energy’s Get Biofuel initiative aimed to shift consumer behavior at the pump, encouraging a switch from Regular Unleaded to Unleaded 88, a higher blend of biofuel. With most drivers defaulting to traditional fuel, they needed a fresh approach to inspire a cleaner choice. Partnering with Shawn Johnson, her husband Andrew East (former NFL player), and their two kids allowed us to connect authentically with their followers.

The East family’s first Green American Road Trip from Nashville to Dallas documented their eco-friendly journey, fueled by Unleaded 88. They shared their adventure on social media, inspiring others to take their own road trips. Our campaign drove traffic to a landing page with pre-built road trip routes that included family-friendly stops and Unleaded 88 stations.
